Global banks needed digital banking solutions fast — responsive, on-brand, and consistent across web and mobile. Backbase's platform had to serve radically different clients with radically different needs, while maintaining a unified component architecture. Design turnaround times were often measured in days, not weeks.
Developed a themeable 'Launchpad' platform that allowed bank partners to customize interfaces with their branding while building on a shared, tested component foundation. Designed an admin panel and CMS improvements that gave banks operational control. Traveled internationally to present proof-of-concept demos to bank stakeholders.
Launchpad significantly accelerated delivery of online and mobile banking projects across Backbase's global client base. Consistent UX across platforms improved client satisfaction and reduced implementation time. The platform went on to serve billions of banking users worldwide.
Working at Backbase meant designing for constraints most designers never encounter — strict regulatory requirements, legacy system integrations, and the need for a single platform to serve banks in a dozen different countries, each with their own brand, language, and user expectations.
The core design challenge was building a flexible but cohesive system that bank partners could theme to their brand without breaking consistency. I designed the component architecture, token system, and documentation that made Launchpad possible — a platform within a platform.
Regularly flew to client sites — ABN Amro in Amsterdam, UniCredit across Europe, UOB in Singapore — to present proof-of-concept designs and gather direct stakeholder feedback. This hands-on client engagement shaped how the platform evolved and built long-term relationships with banking partners.
